The Foundation’s first major initiative was to campaign globally for the protection of the lands of the Kayapo Indians in Brazilian Amazonia. This resulted in 1993 in the legal recognition and demarcation of an area of more than 17,000 square miles as the Menkragnoti Indigenous Area.

In 2008 Rainforest Foundation Fund will continue supporting the  work of Rainforest Foundation Norway in their outstanding work in Papua New Guinea, and in Indonesia through a portfolio of projects which will bring major advances for the rainforest and the rights of  its peoples. The projects concerned imply important support to  indigenous organizations struggling to defend their rights, maintain their culture and protect their environment.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - The most important project, which is  continuing in Asia, relates to the court cases through which the Papua New Guinea Eco-Forestry Forum is trying to curb illegal logging and secure respect for forestry and environment laws and regulations.
